Introduction
So you may have been browsing around the internet and heard a thing or two about tulpas - possibly via a thread on 4chan, reddit, or through a creepypasta. You may also be familiar with the increasing popularity of tulpamancy, or the process of creating and developing a tulpa. Perhaps you're not quite sure what a tulpa even is. Maybe you're wondering whether it's safe to make one, or if you'll go mentally insane if you try. At TulpaForce.github.io, you will find the answers to these questions, and be able to decide for yourself if the phenomenon is real or not. We strive to have the most up-to-date guides and information pertaining to tulpas, and try to give as much supporting evidence from credible psychology resources as we can find.
So What Is A Tulpa?
A tulpa is like a sentient imaginary friend, a separate consciousness alongside your own that has self-awareness, free will, self-concept, metacognition, and independence. Many people have had imaginary friends at an early age, but might have been aware at the time that they were not real, or might have actively talked for their imaginary companion. A person with a tulpa, or a host, believes both that their tulpa is real, and that their tulpa can hold it's own in conversation. Conceptually, the imaginary element of a tulpa is shrouded by a belief-induced 'realness' which fuels the illusion that a tulpa is real and independent from the person who made it. Whether or not they physically are is up for debate, but many people in the psychological camp believe that a tulpa resides in the brain with the host.
A tulpa's personality is often the product of traits that the host has chosen, the desires of the unconscious mind, and the experiences that the tulpa lives through. Through communication and interaction, a tulpa's personality emerges and evolves. In much the same way a human's personality is affected by nature and nurture, so is a tulpa's personality affected by personality forcing and real-life experiences. A developed tulpa has the ability to think on their own, hold their own opinions and beliefs, and make their own decisions independently from the host.
Tulpas often exist in an imposed form, in an imagined 3D projection of real space. Initially, however, they may exist only in the mind's eye, in daydreams, or in deep meditative states, until they are made visible to the host as a voluntary hallucination. The form is often chosen or influenced by the host, sometimes based on an original character, a real person, or a cartoon. The tulpa itself may deviate from its original form, changing its own image in accordance with its personality if they desire. Sometimes this can include a complete unexpected change of appearance.
Why Would I Make A Tulpa?
There are many different reasons someone may want to make a tulpa. For a few people, it's out of sheer curiosity. For others, it's an avenue for psychological and scientific discovery. And for some people, it's a journey of self-discovery and growth. No matter the initial reason, many people stick with making a tulpa for the bond only a thoughtform can offer. A tulpa, as a being who resides in your head, naturally will know you intimately, understand and like you more than any living person on earth ever could. Many strong lasting friendships are developed between hosts and a healthy tulpas. This is not to say that they should replace real people, but tulpas may be able to aid those who already have social anxieties.
Tulpas can aid you in many psychological aspects, virtually serving as a method of self-help. A tulpa can cheer a person up in a time of depression, calm a person when they are angry, keep one focused on an important task, urge somebody to take risks in an uncomfortable situation, and in extreme cases create a new paradigm for which a previously socially inept person adapts into an outgoing and outspoken individual.
Aside from the self-help avenue, tulpas' ability to have their own opinions also serves useful to those who are looking to stay grounded by always having a third-party's input before taking action. They can also be valuable to artists and musicians as muses, or models for artistic work. There are always new possibilities of what tulpa are capable of being discovered and researched in the tulpaforcing community.
How Do I Get Started?
The first thing you'll want to do is start reading up on our guides, which cover several areas you should know while developing a tulpa. Any ambiguous terms will be either explained, or underlined and linked to in the glossary. Be aware however, that while guides can be helpful, that tulpaforcing is a very personal and subjective thing, and you may feel the need to take matters into your own hands and possibly disregard what a guide says altogether. This is not a bad thing, and is why experiences between tulpamancers can be very different. Essentially, guides are more of suggestions than concrete instructions.
Secondly, you may want to check out the many tulpa-related IRC channels on the Chat page. There's a slew of helpful people online that will be able to aid you should you have any problems or run into an obstacles while developing your tulpa.
